RELYING ON JESUS
Everyday Ways to Rely on God
As Christians, if we depend on God in every part of our lives, not only will we find help from God, but more importantly, we will be able to see many amazing works of God and our faith will grow because of it.
But how should we practice relying on God or depending on God?
Here, are three practical ways:
1.Have Absolute Confidence in God’s Power and Rule Over All Things
“God appeared to Abram, and said to him, I am the Almighty God”(Genesis 17:1).
Daniel 6:22-23 “My God sent His angel and shut the mouths of the lions. They have not hurt me, for I was found innocent in God’s sight, and I have done no wrong against you, O King. The king was overjoyed and gave orders to lift Daniel out of the den, and when Daniel was lifted out of the den, no wounds whatsoever were found on him, because he had trusted in his God.”
From these verses, we can see that God IS almighty and that all things ARE in His hands. We can depend on a God who has all power and is in control or rules over all things. Daniel believed that God is almighty, that He has control over all things, including his own life and the animals who were supposed to want to kill and eat him. Daniel believed that God had the power to save his life if He wanted to. Because Daniel truly trusted and looked to God, he received God’s protection and didn’t get hurt in the lions’ den. God is the One who created the universe and all things that exist, and God controls all things, even the lions.
So when you have problems in life, depend on God for help and trust that God has the power to do anything and that He will do what is best for you, which leads us to..
2. Depend on God, Not Our self
“Not by might, nor by power, but by My spirit, says the LORD of hosts” (Zechariah 4:6).
“Cursed are those who put their trust in mere humans, who rely on human strength and turn their hearts away from the LORD.” (Jeremiah 17:5).
In these two verses, God is telling us to depend, or trust God, not to place our trust in men or look to them for our strength. In the recorded event of the battle between David and Goliath, Saul, the first king of Israel, got scared and would not fight when facing Goliath, the Philistine giant. Saul didn’t depend on God, He was looking for a human who was strong enough to defeat the Giant. He announced he would give his daughter to the man who killed Goliath and enrich him with great riches. Saul chose to rely on man’s power and abilities rather than God’s power and failed to see His strength or to obtain His approval. David believed that God was almighty and that every person, no matter how strong they are, can be victorious if they rely and place themselves in God’s hands. Having such faith, David could truly look to God and depend on Him. Finally, as young and small as David was, he defeated Goliath with the help of God.
This brings us to…
3. Have genuine Fellowship, or relationship, With God in Everything.
and Rely on His Words to Stand Firm in All Things
We should have a genuine fellowship with God in everything, not just when problems come our way. But when problems do come, we ought to always pray to Him and look to Him without planning our own way. We should train our heart and mind to please God and stand as a witness for Him even in our troubles. Hopefully you will never be faced with a den of lions, but whatever you are faced with, God is with you. Stay close to God through prayer, reading and obeying His Word, and fellowshipping with other Christians.
